Bible Study: Three Realms of Prayer

In the passage above, the Lord presents three realms of prayer.  The realm of asking, the realm of seeking, and the realm of knocking.   As you begin to study, you will find that each realm has a unique purpose in obtaining direct access to the throne room.

The Old Testament shows you how to enter into God’s presence.  Moses was given the design for the Tabernacle on Mount Sinai, and the design is based upon the Tabernacle in Heaven.  Hebrews 8:5 says that, who serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things, just as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle.  For He said, “See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain.”  The Earthly Tabernacle was to prophetically point the way to God the Father through Jesus, therefore no error was allowed in its constitution.

The Tabernacle was built with three distinct areas.  The outer court, The Holy Place and The Holy of Holies where the Holy Spirit guides us.  Each of these areas in the Tabernacle reveal the three realms of prayer and the presence of God.

The Asking Realm-The Outer Court

John 15:7 says that, if ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will and it shall be done unto you.  Asking begins in the outer court where you make your request known to Him.  This is where you fight and do battle against the devil and his advisories.

The outer court is where you find the alter of sacrifice, where the work of the cross and the blood of Jesus avail.  This is where you confess your sins and are cleansed by the blood from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

It is also where you find the laver or the Word of God.  When you are praying, remind the Lord of His promises.  Ask according to His will and Word.  1 John 5:14 says that, you can ask anything according to His will and He will hear us.

In this realm you must press in for your victory, wait on the Lord, and do battle against the enemy.  Press in and wait upon the Lord.  Only when you overcome the flesh can you enter into the next realm.

The Seeking Realm-The Holy Place

In the Old Testament, God commanded the priest to burn incense on the golden alter every morning and evening.  Incense was a symbol of the prayers and intercession of the people going up to God.  It was a sweet aroma, for God wanted His dwelling to be a place where people would draw near to Him.

This realm is where you must wait on the Lord to seek you.  It is here in the Holy Place that the Holy Spirit gives you the power to seek the Lord.  Jeremiah 29: 13-14 says that, ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.  And I will be found of you, saith the Lord and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.

In this realm we are set free from captivity.  No longer do you believe the lies of the devil.  You receive the truth of God through His word.  This is where you find your nourishment and are filled with praise.  Once you have worship and praise in your heart you move into the great privilege of the knocking realm.

The Knocking Realm-The Holy of Holies

In this realm you have entered into an intimate relationship with God.  This is where those mature in faith enter in to hear from the Lord, it is a partnership with Him.  Which is brought about by spending time in His presence.

The Holy of Holies was separated from the Holy Place by a Hugh veil, that was only brought down when Jesus was on the cross.  Matthew 27:50-51 says that, And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His Spirit.  And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.

By the shedding of Jesus’ blood the veil was torn and your sins where atoned for.  His blood made a way for you to enter into the Holy of Holies and be in God’s Holy presence forever.

You have all the power to ask, seek and knock and get what you want if you believe.  Be bold in the Lord.  Go deeper in prayer and study His Word.  Decree and Declare the promises of God.  Declare God’s Word over your life and every situation.  Move about in your power and authority, focus on the promises of God, live righteous and meditate on His Word.  When you put prayer into action watch what miraculous things God will do for you!
