Bible Study: Glory of God

I don’t know about you, but I am ready to see God’s glory manifested on earth.

The glory of God is the beauty of His Spirit.  It is the display of His magnificence.  Glory is described as great praise, honor or splendor.  Psalms 19:1 says that, The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament sheath his handiwork.  This shows His power and greatness.

Glory is the manifestation of God’s presence.  Once you encounter the majesty of God, you can’t help but respond with reverential worship.  God’s awesome power and majesty make Him deserving of the highest level of respect, awe and devotion.  Psalms 24:9 says, Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.

Glory in Hebrew is Kavod, which indicates worth and value, and results in praise.  In scripture, Kavod can be seen or unseen.  You see this demonstrated when God revealed His glory to Moses in the wilderness, in the cloud, the pillar of fire of Mount Sinai.  He tangibly showed His glory in providing bread from heaven, water from a rock, and many victories in battle when it looked impossible.

His glory can also be felt or sensed.  Sometimes you hear people say they can feel the weighty presence of God, His glory shows up.  His glory is an active, inescapable presence.  You see an example of this in Exodus 40: 34-35, which says, Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.  And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.  This is true for today too.  Sometimes God’s presence is visible, but most often it is sensed.

As believers, you must be willing to die to self, obey His commands, and take sin seriously.  The power of the Holy Spirit makes His glory possible.  God’s manifest presence, the power of the Holy Spirit with us, makes it possible.  Take time each day to acknowledge the honor and reverence that God rightly deserves.  When you do this watch His glory come over you and begin to feel His presence and watch what He does in your life.
