Bible Study: Armor of God

Do you put your armor on everyday?  The Armor of God enables you to fight the spiritual battles that take place daily.  Our warfare is not against flesh and blood, but against a satanic system.  This system functions in the spiritual sphere of individuals, nations, cults and false religions motivating you to rebel against God and His word.  Therefore our weapons are not carnal but spiritual.  The only way to defeat satan and his legions of demons is to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  You must put on the whole Armor of God, so that you will be able to defeat satan.

In this passage of scripture, God is showing you how to mature and be fully equipped so that you are able to become a spiritual warrior.  When you look closely at each piece of the armor you will see that they describe the attributes fulfilled in Christ.

BELT OF TRUTH:

The Roman solider’s belt held the breastplate in place and helped fasten his armor close to his body.  It also held his sword.  Jesus said in John 14:6  “…I am the way, the truth, and the life…”  Truth is our foundation, it allows us to see and interpret life from God’s perspective.  We must know the truth to be able to stand against the enemy.  For we know that satan is the father of lies and if you know the truth it will set you free.  Free from bondage and fear.  His objective is to keep you from knowing and acting on the truth.  When you know the truth it makes you a strong and immovable spiritual warrior.

BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS:

A Roman solider was always equipped with a breastplate to protect his vital organs.  God’s righteousness is our breastplate.  When we choose to follow the Lord and His word we are given power and authority over all the plans of the devil.  We die of our flesh and fleshly ways and we live a powerful righteous life.  1 Corinthians 1:30 says that, But of Him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.  The battle between righteousness and unrighteousness is often a battle between what we know and what we feel.  So we must guard our soul by monitoring what we watch and listen to, so that we do not let satan enter into our spirit.

PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE:

A Roman solider’s feet where protected by special sandals that helped them have a firm foundation.  We too are fitted with a firm foundation in Christ.  Jesus ushered in the kingdom by preaching, which is shown in Matthew 4:17, “Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”.  We know that we are all heirs and joint-heirs with Christ and we where made in His image.  We can stand bold against satan because Jesus already defeated him.  He is a defeated foe and has no power to rule and reign over you, only if you let him.

SHEILD OF FAITH:

The shield was a Roman soldier’s primary defensive weapon.  Your faith in Jesus is your primary defensive weapon.  When you have a strong belief in Jesus nothing can break you.  Through faith we were made strong, through faith we are valiant, courageous, and mighty in battle.  God is all powerful, He is everywhere, and He is always with you.  He is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2).  The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.  Stand bold in your faith and declare and decree over your life.

HELMET OF SALVATION:

A Roman solider’s Helmet protected his most vulnerable area, his head.  The helmet of salvation is the most important piece of armor for us.  Without the Holy Spirit and the anointing that enters our life at the moment of salvation we would not be able to do anything.  Without salvation we have no victory.  The Holy Spirit guides us and protects us.  Without the Holy Spirit we would have no help on earth.  Acts 4:12 says that, Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT:

The Roman solider’s sword was a short, two-edged cut and thrust sword used for close combat.  In the hands of a skilled warrior it could pierce through even the strongest armor.  Our sword is the word of God.  It says in John 1:1,14, In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, and the Word as made flesh and dwelt among us.  Jesus is the Living Word.  There is nothing more powerful than His Word.  You can fight any battle with the Word of God.  The Word becomes the two-edged sword, the Spirit uses it to expose satan’s deceptions and sin in our life.  The Word comes alive when we put it to use.  God has planned for His Word to be the supreme authority on earth.   Get the Word of God in your spirit, so when the enemy comes you can cut him down with the Word.

God’s Armor is the only way you will be able to defeat the enemy.  As we are clothed in Him, we are righteous, we know and speak the truth that sets us free.  We have His faith, we are saved, cleansed and we have the written and living Word abiding in us.  You will be able to withstand every fiery dart of the enemy and endure suffering, persecution, temptation, trials and testings because we are victorious in Christ.

Remember to put your Armor on daily!
