Did you know that God has many different names? Each of these names are a revelation of His character. God Almighty reveals Himself to us in different revelations of His name. These revelations were recorded by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and each defines the nature and perfection of an awesome God.
Elohim: My God, My Creator
The first revelation God gives is that He is Elohim. This name is always connected to creation, authority, power, greatness, dominion, and glory. Genesis 1:1 says that, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Elohim is a plural form of God which you see in Genesis 1:26, “And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.”
Jehovah: My Father
You see His personality revealed in the name Jehovah. Jehovah is associated with covenant relationship, fellowship, and blood sacrifice. Genesis 2:7 says that, then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils, the breath of life, and man become a living being. He is our father. We know this privilege as believers because of the work of the cross. This allows us to experience the intimate father-to-child fellowship that is a result of the covenant relationship with God.
Jehovah El-Shaddai: God Almighty
Genesis 17:1 says that, When Abram was nighty nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty: walk before me faithfully and be blameless.” The word almighty means absolute power over all. This tells you that God has absolute power over all. God has absolute power over sickness, death, sin, satan and any demonic power or influence.
Adonai: My Lord, My Master
Adonai is the plural form of adon (Lord) and means My Lords, referring to the Trinity. We see an example of this in Genesis 18:3 when Abraham calls out, “My Lord”. Being addressed as My Lord implies that He is in complete ownership and control.
Jehovah Jireh: My provider
When Abraham call God Jehovah Jireh, he is saying you see all this need of mine and make provision for it. Not only does God provide for your eternity through salvation, He also provides for your smaller needs too.
Jehovah Ropha: My Healer
To know God as Jehovah Ropha, your healer, you must first know Him as your God, your father, your supplier, your Master and Lord, and your provider. The moment you see Christ as provision through redemption, you will see healing. The word provision is connected to redemption. Exodus 15:26 says that, if you will diligently listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do that which is right in His eyes, and give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put non of the diseases on you that I put on the Egyptians, for I am the Lord, your healer.
Jehovah Nissi: The Lord is our Banner
Exodus 17:15 says that, And Moses built an alter and called the name of it, The Lord is my Banner. With The Lord as your Banner, you are assured victory, you can run and not grow weary, and have peace and joy.
Jehovah Shalom: The Lord our Peace
Judges 6:24 says that, then Gideon built an altar there to the Lord and called it, The Lord is Peace. To this day it still stands at Oprah, which belongs to the Abeizrites. Shalom speaks of wholeness, harmony and completeness. True peace comes only from complete trust in the Lord for your life.
Jehova Raab: The Lord our Shepherd
A shepherd is one who feeds or leads his flock to pasture. Rea is translated to mean friend or companion. This indicates the intimacy God desires between Himself and His people. Psalms 23:1 says, the Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
Jehovah Tsidkenu: The Lord our Righteousness
the Bible is clear that we have no righteousness of our own. It is also impossible for you to achieve righteousness by your own efforts. This means that Jesus Christ is our only source of righteousness. Jeremiah 23:6 says that, In his day, Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely. And this is the name by which he will be called, The Lord is our righteousness.
Jehovah Shaman: The Lord is Here
Like the Israelites centuries ago, you have the promise of a glorious city where you will live with God. He will be there, God has promised to never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). Jesus is with you always whatever your circumstances are.
